Virtual Reality

Virtual reality (VR) is revolutionizing the field of architecture by providing an immersive and interactive way to experience designs before they are built. By using VR, architects can create a fully immersive environment where clients and stakeholders can walk through and explore every detail of a proposed building or space. This technology allows for a more intuitive understanding of scale, lighting, and spatial relationships, which can be difficult to convey through traditional 2D drawings or even 3D models on a screen. Additionally, VR enables real-time collaboration and feedback, allowing for design adjustments on the fly, which can save time and reduce costly changes later in the construction process. Ultimately, incorporating VR into architectural practice enhances communication, improves client satisfaction, and leads to more informed design decisions.

For VR, we recommend the Meta Quest 3 as an excellent starting point due to its affordability and robust feature set. While the Quest 3's built-in processor may not be powerful enough for standalone high-end VR experiences, it can easily be set up to stream content from a more powerful PC, enabling a richer VR experience. The performance and quality settings you can achieve will largely depend on the specifications of your computer. This will also impact the use of advanced features like real-time lighting and the number of participants you can have in the experience simultaneously. We’re currently testing with an RTX 3090, and we’re close to achieving high-quality settings with all movable lights enabled.
